Pawn’s Path started off in April of 2018 as a Game Jam entree (“Rogue Pawn”) for Ludum Dare 41, a fun competition to make a game in a weekend, from scratch.  The theme for LD41 was “Combine 2 Incompatible Genres”

My brother and I had fun coming up with the idea to make a game in the rogue-like genre, mixed with chess.  Here’s what we came up with:

Here’s the entree page.

Here’s the itch.io page, where we hosted the downloadable jam .exe file.

After the dust settled and voting on winners had ended, Rogue Pawn landed in the top 1%!  We came in 3rd place out of over 3k entrees.

Post-Jam:

With the previous game jams we did, I thought that if we ever got in the top 10 or 20, we might consider finishing a winning-jam-game.  3rd place was encouraging to say the least!  We talked for a couple of weeks about making sure we really wanted to do it first… then we decided to finish Rogue Pawn.  Starting on this project would give me a break from my multi-year solo project, Nectira, and give my brother and I a chance to work on a game together again; for the first time in those years of solo-dev.

Months later, we’ve been working hard through the summer, scrambling for pieces of game dev time, in the midst of our busy work schedules.  We’re looking at finishing Rogue Pawn sometime in 2019.

Take a look at some progress screen shots:

We have a website for the game currently: pawnspath.com

and a Facebook page for all our game development:  Dija Studios Facebook Page here.
