 2011 Worship Project

I had high ambitions with this project.  I stopped working at TMCC around the beginning of 2009 due to plans to move to Georgia in pursuit of our music career as Ananias.  We weren’t actually planning on moving until the summer however, so I spent the months in between preparing our Arizona house to go on the market, along with other projects.  One such project was this untitled “2011 worship project”.

The plan with it was to give back to the church an album of the songs I had most frequently led them in worship with, as a way of saying “Thank you for allowing me to serve you as a Worship Pastor, along with other roles for these past few years”.  Since this project was never finished, I never had a gift in the form of making that statement with.  This music project still isn’t finished and probably won’t ever be… though I’d entertain the thought of just wrapping up the raw unmixed state of the tracks.

Here are all of the songs Jess and I had been working on.  Most of them are unfinished, to varying degrees:

In the Background (2004)

I wrote most of these songs after High School, while adapting to my single-guy, career-minded lifestyle over a couple of years.  I had my dad play bass on most of the album.  I recorded everything else in the house I was renting with 2 other guys.

Through the Storm (2002)

I wrote most of these songs my senior year of Highschool, doing the best I could at the time with production to release this by the end of 2002.  I had CDs made and sold most of them at the local Hasting’s store.

Walls (2001)

My second attempt at recording an album, in the midst of my High School years.  This time I burnt copies, made CD case art, and gave it to my family for Christmas in 2001.

Seed (2001)

In the summer of 2000, I moved out of my parent’s main house, into a little building my dad used to work out of in the back yard (referred to as the “Launch Pad”, since each boy that lived out there was then “launched” within a couple of years).  With my newfound privacy and ability to be as loud as I wanted at all hours, I picked up my mom’s electric guitar and started learning how to play.  I was already playing drums at church and showed an interested in singing and writing, so my parents bought me an acoustic guitar for Christmas that year.  Over the next months I “used” songwriting as a way to teach myself how to play, sing, write and “produce” with what little tools I had available (a PC chat mic and Casio keyboard, paired with my rough singing voice and guitar playing).  I think this turned out okay, considering!  Features my buddy Sean Baber on one track, who was always a WAY better musician than me (definitely the sound-out track, though I’m nostalgically proud of them all).  I finished this up probably within a few months before moving on to the next project.
